Snagovian President Gheorghe Stefan Marius resigns ahead of presidential elections

4 May 2021: President Gheorghe Stefan Marius of the Snagovian Federal Republic resigned earlier today, days ahead of the scheduled presidential elections for the first time within the nation for 8 May 2021. The resignation of the President was in accordance to the Election Commission's order that any candidate participating in the election shall not hold any office of profit which also mentioned that office-holders including that of the President would be required to quit from their positions prior to filing nominations.

Gheorghe resigned from his position in order to formally contest the election. President Gheorghe had been serving as the nation's first President since the formal independence of Snagov on 18 June 2020 and is one of the founders of the nation. Ahead of tendering his resignation as the head of state, he dissolved the 1st Parliament of the nation which was elected through the general election held in December 2020 and also the Union Council of Ministers. Senior Minister Dhrubajyoti Roy was named as the nation's caretaker head of government until a formal and permanent appointment is made. The dissolution of the two top decision-making body indicated for the elections to take plan. The nation's caretaker head of government, Dhrubajyoti Roy, who is also acting as the observer for the presidential election announced the schedule of the election calling for the nation to elect its president for the first time since the independence.


Vice President Chilau David Robert was made as the nation's acting President following the resignation of President Gheorghe Stefan Marius addressed to the Senior Minister, which was soon accepted by him.


The elections shall be held on 8 May 2021, while the results shall be declared the immediate day. The campaigning period began soon after the schedule was announced with outgoing President Gheorghe Stefan Marius becoming the first among the candidates to declare his candidacy. He formally announced,

I, Gheorghe Stefan Marius O18JGC, former President, do hereby declare that I shall contest the upcoming Presidential election as a candidate of the Snagovian People's Party.

Gheorghe, who is a member of the Snagovian People's Party is contesting as a partisan candidate and has expressed his strong confidence to win the election and get re-appointed to the office. Series of promises including the establishment of a formal constitution making council in order to draft a constitution for the nation have also been made by him. Upon being asked about the election, he commented:

This election is happening so that thee people could elect a President for the country of their own choice in a democratic way. I wish good luck to all the other candidates.

The scrutiny of the nominations for the election shall take place on 7 May 2021, a day before the scheduled election of 8 May 2021.
