Prince Alok of Purvanchal passed away at 57

Prince Alok of Purvanchal, uncle and first cousin once removed of His Illustrious and Royal Majesty the Rashtradhyaksh Dhrubajyoti Roy and their majesties Tanishkaa Patranabish of Beltola and Anoushkaa Patranabish of Basistha and a maternal uncle of His Majesty Anirban Phatowali of Kamrupa passed away yesterday (6 November) at the age of 57 after a long battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) disease.


Born in 1965, Prince Alok was a first cousin of His Royal Highness Prince Debajyoti, Prince Father of Purvanchal and Her Royal Highness Princess Mother Lipi of Beltola. He was married to a maternal aunt of the Rajpramukh of Kamrupa and Premier Emeritus Princess Arnisha.


Prince Alok was diagnosed with ALS disease in late 2020 and was suffering from the disease for a long time. On 1 October 2022, he suffered two cardiac arrests and was put on ventilator and later shifted a critical care unit and was under life support till he breathed his last yesterday at 5:25 in the evening. The news of his demise was conveyed to the Rashtradhyaksh and other members of the royal family by Princess Shivangi, niece of late Prince Alok and a member of the royal family of Purvanchal. His mortal remains were later brought to his residence to let relatives and other friends and near and dear ones to pay their homage. His remains laid in state till today afternoon when his son residing in another state arrived to perform his last rites.


Prior to being moved to the crematory, his remains was taken to a local club where he actively associated and later to his workplace to allow his colleagues to pay their homage. Following which his remains were taken to the crematory where his last rites were performed by his only son and his wife. His funeral pyre was lit at 4:18 this evening by his son in the presence of the other family members and friends. The rituals were performed following Hindu funeral traditions.


The nation was represented by His Illustrious and Royal Majesty the Rashtradhyaksh, His Majesty the Rajpramukh of Kamrupa, the Senior Princess of Kamrupa Princess Arnisha, the members of the Purvanchal, Beltola and Kamrupa royal families. The demise of Prince Alok leaves a big void in the royal families as his space is hard to be filled. Several foreign dignitaries have offered their condolences to the Rashtradhyaksh following the announcement of the passing away of Prince Alok was made.
