RAJAGRIHA, 3 March - In a significant political development, Prime Minister Princess Klarissa submitted her resignation to Rashtradhyaksh Varuna Sriraya yesterday, shortly after his return from a brief private trip. Her resignation marks a turning point in the nation's political landscape setting stage for a new leadership to assume power. Following her resignation, Prince Mahir, the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, was promptly appointed as the new prime minister, a decision that reflects both continuity and change in the administration.

In addition to the prime ministerial appointment, Rashtradhyaksh Varuna Sriraya also appointed the prime minister's team based on his recommendation. The newly formed cabinet is a robust assembly comprising two deputy prime ministers, three vice prime ministers, eight cabinet ministers, and five deputy ministers. Notably, the outgoing prime minister Princess Klarissa and her predecessor, Farhaz Hazarika, were both appointed as deputy prime ministers, a move that underscores their continued influence in governance. The vice prime ministerial roles were filled by Prince Abhiraj, Princess Tanvi, and Suryadeva Kapei. Furthermore, the cabinet ministers include Mohammad Mridul Amin, Arnab Deka, Rajdeep Deka, Justice Tyler Mullins, Arsal Abbas Mirza, W. Pranit Singh, and Ezekiel Ensor, while the deputy ministers include Jemina Hazarika, Shivangi Roy, Rajia Hazarika, Abayat Ibtiyaz, and Parinita Das. It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister Prince Mahir made a strategic decision to retain all ministers from the previous administration except for Vishwamitran National Party (VNP) leader and National Unity and Second Foreign Minister Josh Ford, alongside Defence Minister of State Luo Yiming, who were both excluded from the new cabinet lineup.

As part of the cabinet formation, the allocation of portfolios was meticulously executed to ensure that each minister is positioned effectively to address the pressing needs of the nation. Prime Minister Prince Mahir retained the crucial portfolios of Cabinet Affairs, Law and Constitutional Affairs, signifying his commitment to upholding the legal framework and administrative integrity of the government. First Deputy Prime Minister Princess Klarissa was entrusted with the responsibilities of Minister of Culture and National Administration. Second Deputy Prime Minister Farhaz Hazarika took on the vital role of Minister of Finance, a position requiring astute economic management and strategic planning. The vice prime ministers were also assigned significant portfolios: First Vice Prime Minister Prince Abhiraj continued to oversee Intergovernmental Affairs and Local Government; Second Vice Prime Minister Princess Tanvi was appointed Minister of Home Affairs; while Third Vice Prime Minister Suryadeva Kapei retained the Defence portfolio, ensuring continuity in national defense strategies.

In the cabinet ministerial appointments, a number of key figures retained their previous portfolios. Mohammad Mridul Amin continued as Minister of Health and Sanitation, while Arnab Deka maintained his position as Minister of Planning, Development, and Coordination. Rajdeep Deka not only retained his portfolio of Information and Broadcasting but was also assigned the additional responsibility as Minister of Social Affairs and Community Development. Justice Tyler Mullins was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Justice and Human Rights. Arsal Abbas Mirza was appointed Minister of Education, Science and Technology. W. Pranit Singh took on the dual role of Minister of Communications and Information Technology as well as Minister of Natural Resources, Water, and Environmental Sustainability. Lastly, Ezekiel Ensor was appointed Minister of Federal Territories and Second Foreign Minister. Tyler Mullins returned to the foreign ministry after having served as Minister of State in 2022, while Mirza also returned as education minister having served in the minister between 2022 and 2023.

Among the newly appointed deputy ministers, Jemina Hazarika was assigned the portfolio of Finance and National Administration. Shivangi Roy retained the charge of Home Affairs and Education, Science and Technology. Rajia Hazarika was tasked with overseeing Health and Sanitation as well as Social Affairs and Community Development. Abayat Ibtiyaz retained charge of Intergovernmental Affairs and Local Government ministry, alongside Planning, Development, and Coordination. Parinita Das was assigned to oversee Culture and Information and Broadcasting.

In a notable development, Luo Yiming, previously the Defence Minister of State, has been appointed as Principal Secretary and Advisor to the Prime Minister, with the rank of deputy minister. This appointment is significant as it positions him as a key advisor within the new administration, allowing him to leverage his experience to guide the Prime Minister on matters of national importance. This reshuffling of roles and responsibilities is expected to bring fresh perspectives and renewed vigor to the government as it embarks on its new agenda.
