It was truly a historic moment for the State of Vishwamitra when formal bilateral and diplomatic relations were established with the Grand Duchy of Flandrensis on 19 July 2021, days after the Flandrensian Grand Ducal cabinet contacted the Government of Vishwamitra with the proposal of establishing formal relations. With the formalization of relations, Flandrensis became the first Antarctic micronation to have established ties with Vishwamitra.
As per Vishwamitra's foreign policy, the nation does neither recognize Antarctic claims and nor nations which are based in Antarctica. However, the Rashtradhyaksh Dhrubajyoti Roy, who is the nation's Chief Ambassador stated that the policy was required to be followed while establishing relations with any ordinary micronation which claims its basic territories in Antarctica, and not for nations like Westarctica and Flandrensis which have historic and recognized claims in the continent. It was also historic from the point that a special article was added to the mutual recognition treaty prepared by the Vishwamitran government in order to respect and recognize Flandrensis' role in environment conservation and fight against global climate change. The article read,
Both parties shall mutually consent to safeguard and protect the environment and natural resources, in addition to voicing its strong concerns and creating awareness regarding climate change.
Vishwamitra is also a subsequent signatory and a member of the Union Against Micronational War (UAMW) since July 2021, which is an apex treaty organization founded on 10 July 2009 by Grand Duke Nicholas I of Flandrensis as a result of many micronational wars on MicroWiki and the micronational community. The goal of the UAMW is neutrality in any micronational conflict. Promotion of peace and condemning micronational war and not participating in it is one of Vishwamitra's key policies.
Taking a part of the happy moment of establishing ties between the two nations, a post on Flandrensis' official twitter handle was made which formally announced the ties.
Flandrensis, officially the Grand Duchy of Flandrensis is a micronation with claims over some areas of Antarctica, which was founded in 2008 by Nicholas I, who currently serves as the Grand Duke of Flandrensis. Flandrensis is regarded by the founder as an ecological venture, to raise awareness on ice melting. Flandrensis has no intentions to visit their claims. The territorial claims of Flandrensis are a statement to the international community and they claim that the micronation is the only country in the world that doesn't want any people on its territory.
