By the Minister of Information and Broadcasting
Leader of the Opposition David Brooke has resigned from Parliament and relinquished citizenship, amid scandal in regards to his coercing of the Government for his party's benefit.
Before he resigned, he served as Flight Officer in the Vishwamitran Air Force, and served as the Green Socialists' Chair from its founding until his resignation.
The deal proposed by Brooke to the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, Farhaz Hazarika was related to the ongoing by-elections, and is as follows:
Let's give those seats to the GSP and we shall support the NPC agenda. Or if you continue to campaign, you support our environmental protection bills we plan to introduce.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the NPC Government shall continue to contest the by-elections in Boragaon and Basistha City. After the conversation was shared by Hazarika to Jayden Dagsa, Minister of Culture, Information and Broadcasting, and to Rory McPhail, Minister of External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, both exposed Brooke, calling it an "attack on the democratic institutions". Brooke, however, tried to downplay it, calling it a mere "negotiation". However, both Dagsa and McPhail fired back at Brooke, demanding from him a public and formal apology. Behind closed doors, McPhail said to Brooke the following:
Mr. Brooke, I am the salty one? Your (sic) a grown man who has been nothing but toxic to a fourteen year old kid for the past weeks. You’ve lost me my position in the MCA and then you openly call me the salty one ON THE FLOOR OF PARLIAMENT? How disrespectful. Out of everyone here, I thought you’d ought to be one of the most mature.
Both Dagsa and McPhail called for a point of order, on the grounds of misbehavior and lese-majeste. After that, Brooke resigned and left.
Numerous discussions on what to do with Brooke are ongoing. Rashtradhyaksh Dhrubajyoti Roy asked both Dagsa and McPhail to recommend what severity of the Persona non-grata Act, 2021 shall be imposed as applicable to the violations made, which include violation of the Constitution, Part II, Art. 7, and the Free Speech and Civility Act written by Dagsa, Art. II.
Brooke has been succeeded by Chandrachur Basu as the GSP chair. With Brooke gone, there is no Official Opposition for no party has achieved 10% of the seats or 2 seats in Parliament, the threshold to be recognized as an opposition party.
